Semex Sires Dominate Royal Holstein Show

RWF Holstein Show 2011

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the annual highlight for many Holstein enthusiasts, and without a doubt it was also a highlight for Semex, as code 200 sires demonstrated their dominance like never before.

At the 2011 show, the numbers tell the true story and like never before, when the judging was finished and the cows left the ring, Semex stood far and above the rest, capturing nearly every award including: Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion & Best Udder of Show, Reserve Intermediate Champion, Junior Champion and the coveted Premier Sire Award. These wins can be attributed to one bull that is the undeniably one of the greatest sires of all time… Semex’s Braedale Goldwyn.

“We’ve never seen sheer dominance like this before,” says Brad Sayles, Semex Alliance Vice President, Global Marketing. “Looking through the classes, Goldwyn continues to be one of the most remarkable and desirable sires in the breed. Siring 10 of 16 class winners certainly put him in a good position to be named Premier Sire, but when you look down the line of those classes Goldwyn ruled the day.”

Goldwyn statistics are certainly impressive, as 110 daughters were shown with 64 placing in the top 10 of their classes, but the milking classes were especially remarkable. From the Jr Two Yr Old Class, Semex sired the top 14 individuals, with 12 being Goldwyns; and 8 of the top 11 Four Yr Olds were sired by Goldwyn; as were 7 of the top 9 Five Yr Olds! Goldwyn award winners include:
• 1st Summer Yrlg: Hardy Gold Diamond
• 1st Jr Yrlg & Jr Champion: VT-Pond-View Gwyn Libby
• 1st Inter Yrlg: Trefle Anick Goldwyn
• 1st Sr Yrlg: Lindenoord Goldwyn Albany

Semex’s Goldwyn was joined by 34 other Semex sires in the Holstein Show, totaling 191 Semex-sired daughters exhibited! These daughters were certainly impressive, as 52% placed in the top 10 of their classes, proving that Semex sires continue to the industry the best proven, most reliable sires in the breed.

In the Red & White ring, Semex’s up-and-coming sire 0200HO02427 Ardross Sterling *RC sired the 1st place Intermediate calf while the sire of proven winners, 0200HO05024 Dudoc Mr Burns *RC, sired the winning Senior Calf.
